Bart Spanhove


Bart Spanhove has been professor for recorder, ensemble playing and practice practising at LUCA Leuven in Belgium since 1984. His students come from Belgium, Taiwan, France, South Africa, Japan, Brazil, Portugal, Germany, Scotland, Luxembourg, Austria, Hong Kong and the USA, many of whom have become internationally successful recorder players. Bart Spanhove was also a member of the ensemble Flanders Recorder Quartet, with whom he has recorded 28 CDs and given more than 2.500 concerts in 65 different countries, besides giving countless master classes and workshops worldwide. 

Making and teaching music is his greatest joy. Every day is a little life with music. Bart Spanhove has published his insight and experiences in The Finishing Touch of Ensemble Playing (Recordia, Korea, 2002) and The Finishing Touch to Practising (Moeck, Germany, 2016). His last published book Practise Practising (Euprint, February 2023) offers musicians plenty of practising strategies. “Learning is practising without repetition” is his motto for lifelong lively and exhilarating music making. 

In his lessons and workshops, he endeavours daily to inspire others with the desire to make music. His great passion is research into innovative study strategies for musicians.
